Council District 9
Councilmember Joel Burns

District 9 representative Joel Burns seeks to help steer his native Cowtown through the challenges that come from rapid growth and continuing to meet changing needs in the nation's 16th largest city.
Burns took his seat on the Council dais in January 2008 following a run-off election in December 2007, but he is no stranger to city government.
Burns previously has served on the Zoning Commission, the Tarrant Housing Partnership and the Historic Fort Worth board as well as chaired the Historical and Cultural Landmarks Commission. Additionally, he has taken a leadership role in neighborhood and professional organizations.
As a council member, Burns serves on the following boards and committees:
- Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee
- Economic and Community Development Committee
- Infrastructure and Transportation Committee
- Downtown Tax Increment Finance District Board
- Lancaster Tax Increment Finance District Board
- Southside Medical District Tax Increment Finance District Board
- Southwest Parkway Tax Increment Finance District.
A strong advocate of efforts to stop bullying in schools, Burns has taken his message to a national audience, appearing on major network programs and, with an invitation from President Barack Obama, participating in the White House's bullying prevention summit.
Burns ran unopposed for re-election in 2009 and 2011.
